Bed Socks ~ Unisukat

My friend saw the cable socks I had made and requested I made her sock that she can use while she sleeps. She wanted the worsted weight, though I was worried they might be too thick for Texas nights, she however was delighted with the socks she received. I used the same pattern as on the previous post, but had to modify the pattern quite a bit. I also made the socks cuff down, much more easy riding, that way I didn't have to modify the toes too, since I have always used the fingerling yarn for toe up socks. :)

Ystäväni näki tekemäni palmikkosukat ja pyysi josko tekisin hänelle sukat, joita hän voisi käyttää nukkuissaan. Hän halusi ne paksummasta langasta, ja vaikka olinkin huolissani että ova turhan kuumat Texasin öihin, niin hän tuntui niistä pitävän. Käytin samaa mallia kuin aikaisemmin postaamiin palmikkosukkiinkin, mutta modifioin sitä paksummalle langalle. Aikaisemmasta poiketen tein nämä sukat varresta alkaen, näin oli teko hieman tutumpaa, eikä varpaita tarvinnyt modifioida, sillä olen aina neulonut varpaista alkavat ohuella langalla. :)

Cable Socks ~ Palmikkosukat

Ok, my big post is painful to process, so I decided to leave it alone for a while and concentrate to happier things. So no post of doom for now. ;)

I wanted to be surprised with socks for my birthday, so I joined a Birthday Sock Exchange. I knitted socks to one of the members for her birthday and someone knitted socks for me. I have lately joined the more universal way of making socks of fingering weight yarn and so this time again I used Fabel again with self striping print and I made a cable on the outer side of the sock. This is just significantly slower than knitting with the thicker Finnish yarns, but also will be more useful during other tinmes than just winter. I knitted the socks from the toe up and two at a time. My intention was to make longer socks, but we were traveling in the mountains of New Mexico and my circular needles broke. So I had to instead make the cuff with a bit bigger needles than the rest of the sock. I really wanted to make them about 2 inches longer, but the change of needles in the middle of the pattern would have been noticeable. All things good, she received the socks and was happy with them and even took this pretty picture for me, since I rushed and sent them without taking a picture. :) Pretty spiffy sock blocks, have to get those myself. :)

Päätin jättää suuren tuomiopäivän postaukseni myöhempään ajankohtaan, se tuntui kovin raskaalta prosessoida. Sen sijaan yritän keskittyä positiivisempiin asioihin. Eli se lupaamani iso syvällisempi postaus saa nyt odottaa.

Halusin tulla yllätetyksi sukilla syntymäpäivänäni, joten otin osaa Syntymäpäivän Sukkarinkiin. Itse neuloin sukat erään toisen syntymäpäiväksi ja vuorostaan joku toinen minulle. Olen viimeaikoina yhtynyt universaaliin sukkienneulojaporukkaan neulomalla sukkani paljon ohuemmalla langalla ja tälläkin kerralla neuloin ne Fabel langasta, itsestääraidoittuvalla sellaisella ja suunnittelin niihin palmikon ulkosyrjälle. Ohuemmalla neulominen on vain huomattavasti hitaampaa kuin suomalaisilla sukkalangoilla neulominen, mutta sukat ovat paljon monikäyttöisemmät muinakin vuodenaikoina kuin talvella. Neuloin nämä sukat varpaista alkaen ja kaksi kerrallaan. Tarkoituksenani oli tehdä pidemmät sukat, mutta matkaillessamme New Mexicon vuorilla ja puikkojen rikkouduttua ei uusia puikkoja olisi löytynyt tilalle. Siispa päädyin aloittamaan resorin puikkojen rikkoutumiskohdasta hiukkaa isommilla puikoilla. Harmikseni en voinut tehda 5 cm pidempiä kuten olin suunnitellut,  mutta puikkojen vaihto kesken kuvion olisi ollut liian näkyvä. Kaikki hyvin ja vastaanottaja piti sukista ja ottipa jopa hienon kuvan minulle hätähousulle joka postitti ne ilman kuvanottoa. Aikas hienot sukkablokitkin, täytyy itsenikin sellaiset hankkia :)
